August 2009 - Latest News on the website covering the history of the Mutch family name in North East Scotland.

Tidy up of parish names

I have tried to standardise the names used for recording parish names in the database. This hopefully will make the site easier to search. The rules are as follows:

  • where possible the names used are as shown by the “List of the OLD PARISH REGISTERS” published by General Register Office for Scotland, available on the Scotland’s People website.

  • if the parish was in Aberdeenshire then no county is given. Other wise , is listed.

  • if the record comes from outside of Scotland then the place and country is listed under Parish.

As always I appreciate when errors are brought to my notice, so please let me know if you find any. My belated thanks go to Malcolm Greig who provided me with a comprehensive listing of typos and errors.

Updates and new Family Lines

Over the past weeks the following updates have been made:

  • Parents of A21, Alexander found to be A10, Alexander and Isabella Bisset

  • Parents of T5, Thomas found to be J6, John and Ann Fraser. Also marriage details for Thomas’ son Alexander and Mary Jamieson added.

  • New line A46 added after I found the death registration for Alexander and Isabella Norrie. His parents were J6, John and Ann Fraser.

  • Parents of A22, Alexander found to be G3, George and Mary Mackie.

  • I found the death registration for Thomas son of A23, Alexander and Christina Grant. He was a police constable in Edinburgh who died from a fractured skull received in a riot there in 1868. Although he never married the 1929 Genealogy states he had a son Thomas who emigrated to Hawaii. Does anyone have any contact with any of his descendants?

  • Parents of A26, Alexander found to be J10, James and Elisabeth Massie.

  • New line J96 added after I found the death registration for James and Mary Grant. His parents were J8, John and Martha Grieve.

  • Parents of A7, Alexander found to be W2, William and Ann Lindsay.

  • New line T7 added after I found the death registration for Thomas and an unnamed spouse registered in Dundee. His parents were A47, Arthur and Mary Simpson which is also a new family line with five children all born in the area of Edinburgh between 1806 and 1819.

Update on copy of the 1929 Genealogy?

As reported in the last newsletter this book is available as reprints in either soft or hard cover versions from the Higginson Book Company of Salem, Massachusetts.

I have now received my copy and am very pleased with the quality. It is obviously a copy rather than a fresh print, but is clear and very readable.

Database status - We currently have details of 1,406 Mutches and 512 spouses.
